English 090/105: College Writing
College Writing (CW) is a five credit/hour, two part course (090/105) designed for students whose English placement scores indicate they need developmental work in reading and writing before entering English Composition I (ECI). The goal of this course is to enhance reading and writing skills and to prepare students for English Composition I. Students enrolled in CW receive two degree credits and three non-degree credits. All students who successfully pass this course will move on to English Composition I (English 101) and Writing Lab (English 106). Note: Students who pass the WRAP with a score equivalent to a 5 on the Placement Exam will be exempt from taking the Writing Lab.his course focuses on American literary selections. Topics include the critical evaluations of the literary genres: story, poetry and drama.
English 101/106: English Composition I English Composition I is an intensive reading and writing course designed to help students improve their communications skills in ways that will enable them to succeed in college and beyond. Throughout the semester in ECI, students are given ample opportunity to develop their ability to read, write, listen, and speak more effectively –particularly in ways that are appropriate for academic work and a professional career. As students gain proficiency in these abilities during a semester of ECI, they are prepared for the more advanced work of English Composition II.
English 102/107: English Composition II This course introduces students to writing about literature and to the research paper. It is the third and final writing course required of all NJCU students. Students learn to identify and to write critically about literary forms including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama.
